Summary
March 27th
9 boats showed up at the start line at 1:00 for the final day of the Frostbite Series. It was good to have Cabernet and Slow Flight and Lucky Jim join us as additional guest racers! After a full hour of good-natured chatter and banter from boat to boat as we drifted in the glassy water, suddenly the wind started to fill in from the West in Penn Cove. Even as we all proceeded to the new start area, our big genoas were overpowered and a few of us were hit hard by the new wind and knocked down a bit. The committee moved the marks and set the course for the new wind, and the start horns announced the first race at approximately 2:00. The start line was serious business as nine boats and nine crews worked out their start positions in the best wind of the whole series! It was a good start and most reached the windward mark at the same time, challenging all with handling skills and right-of-way rules. The down wind leg gave a welcome break from the work of beating to windward, and crews were able to rest a bit, at least on the non-flying boats! I'm sure the spinnakers were a bit of work in that wind! Only Blidevind had any problems, they had the misfortune of getting one of their own lines wrapped around their own prop just at the leward mark rounding. But they made it back just in time for the second start.

Race 6 was the same wonderful wind, measured at 15 gusting to 20 on Rossinante at one point, the start line was great, the same challenges were present at the mark roundings, and at least on Rossinante, the heel varied from 15 to 35 upwind. We dunked our winches once! WOO HOOOO !! It was some good sailing!

Race Committee: Mike Schott and Keith Andrews
As you can see, in this wind several of us were privileged with a view of Tango's transom for a change! Way to go Bob & Blaine!
Huge thanks and appreciation to Faisal and Terry for the use of their Scarab again for committee boat, thanks to Faisal's brother and his wife for bringing out the boat, and thanks to Mike Schott and Keith Andrews for the timekeeping and running the starts. None of it could have happened without you folks doing the work!
We've got flyers and advertisements for Spring Series, and we're hoping to see a big enough turnout to return to running two classes! A flying class and a non-flying class!
Come on out and encourage your friends and fellow sailors to join us!
See you all there!
Michele
