Frostbite Series

2004 Series Results

March 6 | March 13 | March 20 | March27 | Summary

March 6th
WINSA's 2004 Frostbite Race Series began on Saturday March 6th at 1:00 pm with four boats showing up to battle it out for the trophies!

The wind speeds varied between 15 and 20 knotts, (give or take, this is a very unofficial report) kicking up waves and whitecaps! Slingshot and Blidevind were under full sail, Rossinante had full main but only working jib, and Tango had a reefed main and 135 (?).

RACE # 1 (tossed out)
Confusion reigned at the start line. Rossinante charged across in the lead, having timed the start a little less than perfectly, thinking we were 10 seconds late. Slingshot came along and in passing Rossinante, shouted "you were over early!!!" Blidevind and Tango were neck and neck (I understand) as Bob Shambora shouted to Rod "where's the start line??".

Oh well. Race 1 was tossed out due to unclear start horns and lack of agreement. However, this writer finds it worthwhile to report that the order of finish and corrected times for Race 1 were:

Course:

Skipper Boat Place Total Time Corrected Time
Michelle Sladko Rossinante 1   38 min 30 sec
Bob Miles Slingshot 2   40 min 22 sec
Bob Shambora Tango 3   47 min 54 sec
Rod Hubbard Blidevind 4   49 min 28 sec

RACE # 2 (Officially Race #1)
Course:

Skipper Boat Place Total Time Corrected Time
Bob Miles Slingshot 1   38 min 39 sec
Michelle Sladko Rossinante 2   40 min 54 sec
Rod Hubbard Blidevind 3   43 min 20 sec
Bob Shambora Tango 4   45 min 06 sec

Race Committee:

It was a great time out on the water! Rod reports from Blidevind, "On my boat Eric Geyer and I were so out of practice that we stalled the sails two times! Bob Shambora (Tango) sailed right past us on the first race because of it. We were laughing so hard it was hard to recover without just spinning the boat 360 degrees."

Frostbite Race Series started with four crews having a great time and some enjoyable chats and discussions in the Yacht Club afterwards!

We'd love to see more boats come on out and join the races!

See y'all at the start line Saturday March 13th at 1:00 !!!
